A quartet led by composer and saxophonist Grgur Savić at the intersection of contemporary jazz, composed music, and free improvisation. The ensemble combines fixed structures with open forms, treating composition and improvisation as different degrees of organization within the musical process. Savić's compositions serve as starting points allowing form, timbre, texture, and direction to emerge from real-time interaction. Inspired by free jazz, contemporary composition, and Berlin's "Echtzeitmusik" tradition, VORTEX develops music where structure and spontaneity are in constant dialogue.
