Unruly Kinships

Unruly Kinships

About the event

Join curators and editors Kris Dittel and Aneta Rostkowska for a presentation of the book Unruly Kinships, a landmark publication exploring how we create and sustain relationships with ourselves, each other, and the world beyond traditional family structures.

This presentation examines kinship as an ongoing process of relational experimentation. Through essays, artistic reflections, and conversations, the book challenges conventional notions of family and invites readers to reconsider care, solidarity, and interdependence in contemporary social and ecological contexts. It features contributions from artists, theorists, and writers, exploring unruly desires, ancestral connections, and liberatory forms of care.

During the event, the editors will discuss the project's three-year development process and address the key themes. The presentation will be followed by a sharing session where audience members can reflect on their own experiences with chosen families, community care networks, and unconventional kinship structures. We'll explore questions like: How do we navigate the gap between expectations and lived realities of care? What sustains relationships outside recognized frameworks? What possibilities emerge when we step beyond tradition?

Perfect for artists, cultural workers, researchers, students, and anyone rethinking care and social organization. Light refreshments will be provided.
