Conductor Titus Engel and the German Opera Berlin orchestra present an ambitious cross-century program under the theme "Licht auf Parsifal" (Light on Parsifal). The evening juxtaposes three transformative works: Karlheinz Stockhausen's abstract and intricate "Michaels Reise um die Erde" (Michael's Journey Around the Earth), John Cage's conceptual silence-piece "4'33''", and excerpts from Richard Wagner's final opera "Parsifal" (Act III). Soloists Attilio Glaser as Parsifal and Tareq Nazmi as Gurnemanz anchor Wagner's mystical drama of redemption and spiritual seeking. This is not a conventional opera evening but rather a meditation on light, meaning, and transcendence in music — from the medieval spirituality of Wagner through 20th-century experimental modernism. Part of Berlin's annual Music Festival, this performance explores how different eras and compositional philosophies engage with themes of enlightenment and the sacred.
