Joana Mallwitz and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin open the 2026/27 season with an evening devoted to the art of the waltz — a celebration of elegance, movement, and musical joy. Richard Strauss's waltzes from his operas combine Viennese charm with sophisticated orchestration, Maurice Ravel's "La Valse" reimagines the form with impressionistic color and chromatic density, and Unsuk Chin's new commission brings a contemporary perspective to rhythmic dance. Prokofiev's ballet excerpts add vibrancy and theatrical flair. Under Mallwitz's direction, the orchestra doesn't merely play waltzes — they embody them, exploring how each composer engaged with dance rhythms as a vehicle for emotion and artistry. Doors open at 18:45 with a pre-concert introduction at 19:00. The concert will also be broadcast live at Freiluftkino Friedrichshain, inviting the city to join this opening celebration. A perfect introduction to the season ahead.
