Jonas Eika: Offener Himmel (Jonas Eika im Gespräch mit Juliane Liebert)

About the event

Danish writer Jonas Eika returns with a new novel after the success of Nach der Sonne (Hanser Berlin, 2020). In this evening at the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Eika talks with Juliane Liebert about Offener Himmel (Hanser Berlin, 2026), a genre-crossing historical novel that Eika describes through a small community of women living together in the Belgian city of Liège in 1233.

The five women of this Beguine community live in a way that was unusual for their time: unmarried, but not as nuns, simply as people. Their shared life is threatened by the Church, and in the middle of this struggle Ida begins to receive divine visions. She grows into a prophet who speaks out for a more just world order.

The novel looks closely at the limits of faith, at female solidarity, and at the difficulties and small miracles that come with building a new life together. Eika is one of Denmark's major non-binary voices, and the conversation offers a chance to hear the author think about the history behind the book and the questions it raises today.

The LCB hosts the evening at its house on Am Sandwerder in Berlin-Wannsee. The event is held in English.
