Jalen Ngonda honours soul music's rich history while pushing it forward into new territory. An archivist and explorer, Ngonda is shaping the future of soul music with his second album, Doctrine of Love.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington DC, Jalen discovered soul music at age 11 through the Temptations and went on to study music at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA), founded by Paul McCartney. Self-taught on guitar, drums, and keyboards, he's developed a distinctive sound that channels the organic funk and soul of classic 60s Chicago and Detroit — think Marvin Gaye, Jackie Wilson, and David Ruffin for the 21st century.
Over the past three years, Ngonda has grown from small clubs to arenas and festivals across the world, combining natural charm, swagger, and a show-stopping falsetto. With support from Brooke Combe, this is a must-see for soul music lovers.
