Anja Huwe returns to silent green for an exclusive Sonic Morgue concert, presented alongside Das Kinn. After two celebrated performances at Volksbühne, this intimate Berlin show reunites the legendary post-punk pioneer with her iconic project Xmal Deutschland.

Albums like Fetisch (1983) and Tocsin (1984) on the legendary 4AD label established the band's reputation far beyond Germany. Anja Huwe's distinctive, cool voice — urgent and unmistakable — anchors the project's atmospheric intensity.

After decades of silence, Xmal Deutschland's work has experienced a remarkable renaissance: major reissues including the acclaimed Gift: The 4AD Years box set, alongside Huwe's solo comeback, have returned the band to international prominence. Her 2024 solo album CODES bridges past and present, proving how timeless her aesthetic remains.

Recent Volksbühne performances confirmed this relevance: atmospherically dense, emotionally intense. Not nostalgic retrospective but concentrated, contemporary live experience — classic Xmal Deutschland material in fresh context, joined with Huwe's current artistic practice.

With debut full-length Ruinenkampf, Das Kinn embarks on a musical journey through contemporary ruins. Via kickbox phonetics and electronic armada, the project moves through unsettling soundscapes suspended between DAF, Kosmische Kuriere, and Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel. Beats maxed. Bones rattle. The organ grinds.

Warm synth lines from cold hands. Saxophone meditating on the aftermath. Hymns for demolition. Music for ceremonial decline.

Vocalist and sound activist Toben Piel has broadcast signals from Frankfurt's catacombs for nearly two decades across varied constellations: as part of music-performance duo Les Trucs, co-running tape label MMODEMM, and creating work for theater and radio.
