A celebration of the visionary Canadian-British trumpet and flugelhorn virtuoso Kenny Wheeler, whose influence shaped European jazz profoundly. On his death day, September 18th, Berlin saxophonist Markus Busch curates a large ensemble of internationally renowned musicians from Berlin's jazz scene performing Wheeler's work.
The program centers on the legendary ECM album "Music for Large & Small Ensembles" (1990), a milestone of modern European jazz. This recording showcases Wheeler's extraordinary ability to craft grand ensemble sonorities with chamber music transparency, combining powerful brass writing with soaring melodic arcs.
