Grischa Tannberg is a freshly trained economist who joins East Germany's State Planning Commission, eager to make an impact. But he quickly discovers that the position involves little more than bureaucratic waiting. Ignoring his supervisor's warning to master 'the art of waiting,' Grischa instead channels his ambition into an audacious economic cooperation proposal: linking East German industrial goods with Afghan agricultural exports in a mutually beneficial trade partnership.
What begins as one man's idea spirals unexpectedly through the bureaucratic machinery. His proposal escalates from a modest suggestion into a full working group, then a pilot project, eventually capturing the attention of state institutions, border troops, and top political leadership. As the concept travels upward through the corridors of power, it takes on a life of its own, transformed and reimagined at each level.
Directed by Wilke Weermann, 'Wie Grischa mit einer verwegenen Idee beinahe den Weltfrieden auslöste' is a darkly comic exploration of ambition, bureaucracy, and the unintended consequences of idealism. With a strong ensemble cast including Jonas Hien, Frieder Langenberger, and Katrija Lehmann, this production examines how one person's vision can unexpectedly ripple through systems of power — sometimes with absurd and far-reaching results. A sharp, witty meditation on how small acts can cascade into larger historical forces.
