Späth's historic tree nursery grounds come alive for the Traditionsfest, a weekend-long celebration of gardening culture, heritage, and seasonal abundance. Around 120 exhibitors showcase plants, horticultural ideas, and artisan crafts for garden, terrace, and balcony.
The Monbijou Theater performs fairy tales in the historic Black Barn, while live music fills the grounds from an outdoor stage. Families can enjoy carousel rides across the nursery grounds, craft workshops for children, and guided tours through the 300+ year-old tree nursery museum. The highlight this year is the new Weltacker (World Garden), an initiative for sustainable agriculture education nestled among century-old trees.
The autumn pumpkin exhibition features over 100 edible varieties, while the unique Sortengartin displays 450 different tree and shrub species. Expert fruit growers demonstrate orchard techniques and lead the "Botanik-Battle" plant identification challenge. At the historic packing hall, pomologist Dr. Hilmar Schwärzel (the "Apple Pope") offers fruit variety identification.
The grounds showcase contemporary art installations by Franz Christanell alongside heritage structures, blending garden innovation with Späth's living legacy. Picnic baskets available at the Späth-Bar for enjoying the new orchard area. Wine, food specialties, and artisan wares complete the experience as Berlin's oldest surviving nursery celebrates the season.
All program offerings are included with admission. Entrance visitors receive 10 percent discount on all Späth plants.
