The story begins on October 16, 1906, when shoemaker Wilhelm Voigt executed one of Germany's most audacious pranks, marching into Köpenick Town Hall dressed as an army captain with soldiers at his command. This spectacular heist holds up a mirror to a society mesmerized by military uniforms and authority, revealing the absurdity of blind obedience to rank and costume.

Max Hopp, born in Köpenick himself, breathes life into this legendary Berlin tale through masterful characterization, embodying Voigt, the tailor Wabschke, Mayor Obermüller, and numerous others from this remarkable true story. Musician Doris Decker provides original compositions created with Marlon Mausbach.

Zuckermayer's 1931 stage adaptation became a political statement against rising authoritarianism, so powerful that Joseph Goebbels threatened the playwright with imprisonment. The play resonates through German culture, echoing in characters like Franz Biberkopf and Beckmann, but none capture the outsider's cunning reinvention quite like Voigt.
