Arthur Romanowski embarks on an intimate exploration of his own neighborhood, tracing the stories of Gropiusstadt's residents through a documentary theatre piece. Inspired by Georges Perec's novel "Life: A User's Manual," this work weaves together personal interviews and lived experiences into a vivid, multivocal portrait of Berlin's most misunderstood district.
The Gropiusstadt has worn many labels over its short history: prefab housing experiment, suburban satellite, urban periphery, problem zone. But beneath the urban planning debates and dismissive critiques lies a vibrant community. Through candid conversations with residents, Romanowski and his ensemble create a mosaic of stories about belonging, displacement, memory, and home. You'll encounter a stolen cassette, kitchen conversations that feel like friendship, and histories that resist easy categorization.
A documentary theatre work about neighborhood, identity, and the stories we tell about where we live. Mehr erfahren
