It Takes a Broken Voice is an embodied practice workshop led by Iranian choreographer Sorour Darabi, serving as an introduction to the 'wielding fissures' series. Participants explore selected moments from the creative development of 'Mille et Une Nuits,' a performative opera that examines trans-friendly vocal aesthetics. The workshop investigates how vocal transition experiences, particularly those related to hormone therapy, can fundamentally transform our relationship with the body and voice. Through hands-on movement and vocal exploration, participants engage with concepts of embodied transition and the poetic potential of the voice. No prior experience is necessary; the session is conducted in English and welcomes dancers and anyone interested in voice work.
