Georges Perec's absurdist comedy follows a nameless employee navigating the Kafkaesque bureaucracy of wage negotiation. In this darkly comic exploration, a simple request for a salary increase spirals into an endless series of variations, each one revealing new bureaucratic obstacles and complications. Through linguistic wordplay and repetition, Perec examines the themes of labor, alienation, aging, and the fundamental absurdity of navigating rigid hierarchical structures in the modern workplace.
Directed by Anita Vulesica and performed in the Kammer (chamber theater), this 100-minute production without intermission captures the existential humor and social critique embedded in Perec's examination of "all possible complications that could impede access to fair compensation." The production offers a sharp commentary on workplace power dynamics and the human experience of trying to secure what should be basic rights.
Performed in German. Tickets available through the Deutsches Theater website.
