The Neu Berlin Institute of Improvised Music (NBIIM) returns for its 41st session, bringing together a carefully curated ensemble of musicians exploring the boundless possibilities of live improvisation. This evening features an opening group followed by curator-assembled sessions designed to connect different practices and vocabularies of improvisation across genres and disciplines.
The ensemble for this session includes Raiga Hayashi on drums, Siri Salminen bringing dance and movement, Maganda Shakul manipulating sounds through Ableton Push, and Margaux Oswald at the piano. Together, they create an immediate composition in real time, blending percussive textures, choreographed movement, electronic manipulation, and acoustic piano into a singular spontaneous artwork.
The NBIIM philosophy centers on breaking down the boundaries between musical genres and disciplines. By assembling musicians who approach improvisation from different angles—whether through rhythm, gesture, technology, or classical training—the institute creates a unique space where new musical possibilities emerge through dialogue and mutual listening. Each session is unrepeatable, a genuine moment of collective creation.
Doors open at 19:30, with the concert beginning at 20:00. Whether you're a seasoned improvisation listener or curious about what happens when artists truly listen to each other in the moment, this is an evening of genuine spontaneous music-making at Ausland.
