Saturday night at Madame Claude takes a detour to 1980s Tokyo. Lady Pink Panther, a Scottish DJ now based in Berlin, has built a following around one thing she does exceptionally well: Japanese City Pop. Think glossy synths, slap bass, breezy vocals and that unmistakable late-summer glow of a genre that was made for driving along the coast with the windows down.

City Pop has been having a second life for a few years now, and Lady Pink Panther's selections go well beyond the obvious viral hits. Expect deep cuts, funk and boogie crossovers, and a few unexpected turns that keep the floor moving without ever losing the easygoing mood. It is nostalgic without being a museum piece, and it fits Kreuzberg's early September evenings perfectly.

The venue

Madame Claude is the famously upside-down bar on Lübbener Straße, where furniture hangs from the ceiling and the basement hosts a nightly programme of live music, DJ sets and experimental evenings. It is small, informal and welcoming, the kind of place where you can drift between the bar upstairs and the dancefloor below without any fuss.
