An extraordinary afternoon performance bringing together a celebrated composition, distinguished soloists, and a major Berlin orchestra after years of anticipation.
Vito Žuraj — Cellokonzert „Unveiled" (World premiere performance)
Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras joins conductor Juraj Valčuha and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin for this specially commissioned concerto. Originally written for the 2021 season celebrating the Konzerthaus's 200th anniversary, the premiere was delayed by the pandemic. Now, five years later, the work finally reaches the stage in its first full orchestral performance.
Robert Schumann — Symphony No. 2 in C major
The composer's second symphony, written during the winter of 1845–46, offers a fascinating window into Schumann's creative resilience. Even as depression darkened his personal life, composition became his spiritual resistance—a way to fight back through art. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy conducted the world premiere in Leipzig's Gewandhaus.
The program showcases both the boldness of contemporary creation and the enduring power of 19th-century orchestral mastery.
