A poignant Georgian drama about love, loss, and the stories we tell ourselves. Meteorologist Dato returns to his coastal hometown after six years of wrongful imprisonment, only to find his family shattered by absence. Unable to face the painful truth, his grandfather weaves a fantastical tale: the absent father is a superhero secret agent, still out there saving the world. As reality, dreams, and fairy tale blur together, the film becomes a meditation on how we survive trauma through imagination and the redemptive power of family myths.
Directed by Nana Jorjadze and featuring striking performances by Merab Ninidze and Ramaz Chkhikvadze, The Rainbowmaker is a beautifully crafted exploration of human resilience. The screening includes a reception and art exhibition, with the producer in attendance for a live Q&A with the director on Wednesday evening.
Original title: Georgiens Gold | 90 minutes | German, Italian, Russian dialogue with English subtitles | 2008
